Deakin University Professor John W Toumbourou is the Chair in Health Psychology within the School of Psychology and a Leader in Intervention and Translation Sciences within the Centre for Social and Early Emotional Development (SEED). As part of his Deakin roles he serves as a voluntary Director of the not for profit company Communities That Care Ltd, which has achieved Australia-wide reductions in youth substance use and antisocial behaviour. He is a prominent researcher and social advocate in areas related to healthy child and adolescent development to prevent mental health and alcohol and drug problems. His research evaluates how healthy child and adolescent development interventions contribute to reducing the intergenerational transmission of violence against women (FRSA Research Report).
